Hello everyone and thank you for joining me for this month-end episode on goals.

Can someone please tell me where September went? With a couple trips home to Worcester, The Maine Women’s Conference board and activity surrounding next year’s event ramping up, the BNI Maine Leadership Team training and transitions going on, as well as my October group program joyfully on the calendar, the month of September seemed to go by in a blink!

However, I made peace many years ago that September is a very active month. And although we’ve had some wacky weather here in Maine it has now settled into the mild days and cool nights that I enjoy the most.

I’m releasing this episode late on a Sunday because I was determined to get the month-end update on goals episode out by month-end.

Last December I did a series of episodes to walk you through my goals process and I used myself as the Guinea pig for that purpose. I promised during that time that I would keep you updated on my progress toward my goals in the hope that it would be helpful for you as you work toward accomplishing your goals and this is the September update.

During the Goals series I identified four focus areas that were important to me and each area has a specific goal assigned to it.

Focus area #1 Increase profitability in my business

Goal: have a net income (earnings minus expenses) of $80,000 minimum this year.

With the help of my mastermind group and going through my goals review back in June I have created 4 sub-goals for this goal. These sub-goals are, by year end:

  1. Have had 12 new Executive Leadership Coaching clients. This is coaching that focuses on leaders within organizations to help them with their performance and happiness at work. I have had a total of 6 clients who fall into this category and two potential new clients starting in October. I’ll be looking to help 4 other new clients to reduce stress, and boost their energy and effectiveness so they can achieve their goals with ease. It’s exciting stuff.
  2. Do 10 corporate workshops. I have done 4 thus far this year and have 4 potential workshops coming up but still no movement this month. I have started my mail and networking campaign and have several coffee dates and meetings on the calendar to get some momentum going in this sub-category.
  3. Promote the DIY products that are on the Women Taking the Lead website. This item fell off the map this week. My Virtual Assistant moved during September and though we checked in on this goal once during the month it was all she could do to support me in the preparations for marketing the October group program. We’ll definitely have a closer eye on this goal as we go into this month.
  4. Do two more group programs by the end of the year. I have The Accomplished Course starting October 16 and running for 4 weeks. I’ll share more on that in a bit. I am also doing a live workshop that will ideally occur on Tuesday, December 4 in Portland, Maine. I have decided this is going to be a workshop to help you design and achieve goals that are worthy of you. I’ll have more on this particular workshop coming around mid-October once the registration for The Accomplished Course is closed.

July was a great month with the Profit and Loss report showing a net profit of $5,788.76. However, with a larger payment expected to land in August actually landing in September it left August pretty low with a net profit of $738.30. I promise you September is much better and October is looking good as well.

Focus area #2 Build more strength and endurance

Goal: do 1000 Spartan-regulation burpees in good form within one workout by the end of October. Separately, do an unassisted pull-up before the end of this year.

I mentioned in last month’s episode that I began working with Alex, the Personal Trainer in my BNI group. He is certified as a Person Trainer and Nutrition Coach and has experience working with endurance athletes.

Alex had recommended, in an effort to save my joints from wear and tear, to change up the burpee workouts I do once a week. He suggested doing my burpee workout quicker rather than trying to do more burpees.

So I’ve been doing 500 burpees each week striving to beat the time of last week’s burpee workout. This I have been doing.

  • 4/17 – 500 burpees – 1:43:49
  • 8/21 – 500 burpees – 1:36:15
  • 9/21 – 500 burpees – 1:29:10
  • 9/28 – 500 burpees – 1:28:04

Alex and I guess-timated based on this information that it will likely take me about 4 hours to do 1000 burpees. So this next week Alex is having me do burpees for 4 hours at a slow and steady pace to get my mind wrapped around how long it is likely going to take. Then a future workout will be doing burpees for 3 hours at the pace I’ll be shooting for when I’ll officially be doing the 1000 burpees.

I will be attempting to complete this goal on October 26 and since the October month-end episode comes out on October 29 I am hoping to be able to share with you next month that this goal is done and I am ready to focus on the pull-up.

Wish me luck!

Focus are #3 Romantic Partnership

Goal: Be in a committed monogamous relationship with a man.

Last month I shared with you I was managing my Type A tendencies and practicing patience because I met and hit it off with a man who lives 700 miles away from me. We met while he was vacationing in Maine and that’s why his profile showed up on the dating app; he was within the distance settings I had in my profile.

Where I left off last month he was deciding if he thought it was possible for a long-distance relationship to work and I was waiting for his answer. And his answer was he didn’t think it would work. The distance wasn’t the main reason but he thought that would only make things harder. The biggest reason was something he is going through right now. The timing of our meeting along with distance had him believe we wouldn’t make it without “major frustration” on my end.

What can you do? He was being honest and considerate of me. The fact is a long-distance relationship wouldn’t work unless both people at the very least believed that it possibly could. Not that it definitely would, but possibly could. If that’s not there there’s no reason to pursue it.

Nonetheless, I was sad and disappointed and it has taken a little bit of time to recover from it. Recover not just from being a little heart-broken, but recover from comparing the other profiles to his profile. And comparing other men I meet in real life with him. That has taken some time. Up until this point I had been able to bounce back in a day or two.

I can say I’ve made a couple new matches and we’re in the conversation phase. We’ll see how it goes. Wish me luck on this one as well. Like I mentioned last month, this is the most challenging focus area for me.

Focus area #4 Live Events

Goal: Do a live workshop in the 4th quarter of this year.

This goal is on my mind more and more now that I’ve gotten other things in motion such as the executive leadership coaching and corporate workshops campaign.

I have decided I’m taking my goals process and I am turning it into a live workshop. It’s all about creating and achieving goals that are worthy of you and the beginning of December is the perfect time to take yourself through this process. So bookmark this in your mind and stay tuned for more information.

Quick Update on my Mom

My Mom has had her second chemo treatment and this time it was with the port put in so it went more smoothly from what I hear. She’ll have 4 more chemo treatments, along with receiving a dosage of Herceptin, with the appointments spaced 3 weeks apart.

She is in good spirits and looking forward to the holidays and all the church events that will be coming up in the next few months.

Thank you again for your thoughts, prayers and messages. I am truly grateful to all of you!

As always I hope this update was of value to you and here’s to your success!
